A Bangladeshi farmer has lost his life due to injuries sustained in a grenade attack carried out by an armed individual from Myanmar amidst the ongoing conflict between the Arakan Army and security forces.
Anwar Salam Mobarak, aged 32, passed away on Thursday night after undergoing treatment for a month at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, as confirmed by Resident Medical Officer Dr. Ashiqur Rahman.
According to Altaaz Ahmad, a member of Palongkhali Union Council, Mobarak was working in a field near Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya border when he encountered an armed individual attempting to cross the border from the Myanmar side on February 7.
"Upon noticing Mobarak, the armed man from Myanmar hurled a grenade at him when he tried to stop the border crossing in Ukhiya," Altaaz stated.
Following the attack, locals immediately rushed Mobarak to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital for urgent medical attention. He was later transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
"Although there were signs of improvement initially, Mobarak's health deteriorated, and he was eventually brought back to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on Thursday after a month-long battle," Altaaz revealed.
Mobarak is survived by his wife, Maryam, along with their two daughters and a son, who were all dependent on him for their livelihood.
