The National Task Force (NTF) on forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (FDMNs) has urged the United Nations (UN) and the international community to secure adequate funding to sustain ongoing humanitarian efforts for the Rohingyas and host community in Bangladesh.

The call was made during the 46th meeting of the NTF, chaired by Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin, on December 24 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a press release issued today.

During the meeting, the Foreign Secretary emphasized that sustainable and voluntary repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar remains the only long-term solution to the crisis.

“We call for effective measures from all stakeholders to resolve this crisis,” he stated.

The meeting was attended by representatives from UN agencies, the World Bank, the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), and officials from various ministries and agencies.

A strong appeal was made to the UN for coordinated action to ensure the dignified return of the Rohingyas to Myanmar, with guarantees of their rights and security in their homeland.

UN representatives briefed participants on ongoing initiatives in Myanmar's Rakhine State, stressing the need for collective efforts to create a safe and conducive environment for repatriation.

Key issues discussed included camp management, infrastructure, electricity, healthcare, and family planning for Rohingyas in Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char. Financing for both the Rohingya and host communities, facilitated by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, was also reviewed.

The meeting highlighted challenges stemming from the prolonged presence of the Rohingyas in Bangladesh, particularly socio-economic and security concerns.

Participants underscored the importance of enhancing security around the camps and addressing the needs of newly arrived Myanmar nationals.
