Today, Indonesia's General Election Commission (KPU) declared Prabowo Subianto as the nation's eighth president. This declaration comes after the constitutional court rejected appeals from two defeated presidential candidates regarding a dispute over the February presidential polls.
Chairman of the KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari, revealed that Prabowo, along with his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka, has been elected as the president and vice president for the term spanning 2024 to 2029. The duo secured approximately 96 million votes, which accounts for nearly 59 percent of the total votes, as reported by Xinhua.
Prabowo and Gibran's victory surpasses that of the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar pair, who garnered around 41 million votes, and the Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD duo, who received approximately 27 million votes.
Currently serving as Indonesia's defence minister, Prabowo is slated to be inaugurated on October 20 of this year, marking a significant transition in the country's leadership.
