Expressing deep concern over the situation in Myanmar, the United States has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the Rohingya refugee crisis, calling it a priority.
"We are closely following these developments and remain concerned about the conflict and its potential to undermine regional stability and security," US Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller stated during a media briefing on Tuesday.
Responding to a reporter's question about the US's assessment of the situation, including the fate of the Rohingya refugees following reports of the Arakan Army taking control of Rakhine state, Miller emphasized the US's focus on resolving the crisis.
He commended the people and government of Bangladesh for their generosity in hosting Rohingya refugees fleeing persecution in Myanmar. "We will continue to work with Bangladesh to support the Rohingya and other vulnerable communities from Burma (Myanmar) who have sought refuge there," Miller said.
Bangladesh currently hosts over 1.2 million Rohingyas in the Cox’s Bazar region and on Bhasan Char Island.
