The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with the United Nations for the high-level conference on Rohingya issue as proposed by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.
Throughout his two-day visit, November 8-9, the Foreign Secretary engaged in consultations with local authorities and key government agencies. The discussions emphasized the current conditions of the Rohingya camps and the challenges affecting both camp residents and the surrounding host communities. Officials underscored the urgent need for sustainable repatriation of the Rohingya to their homeland as a means of alleviating social, ecological, and economic pressures in Cox’s Bazar.
The meeting, presided over by Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Salahuddin, also covered humanitarian and security concerns within the camps. With recent arrivals of Rohingyas further intensifying the crisis, the discussions focused on finding viable solutions to ease the burden on the government.
During his visit, the Foreign Secretary had the opportunity to observe the work of the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) and international partners involved in crisis response. He also held a separate meeting with Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Director-General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), to address security concerns related to the camps.
On Saturday, the Foreign Secretary toured the camps, accompanied by Md Mizanur Rahman, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, to witness firsthand the efforts and coordination strategies being implemented on the ground.
