Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has called for sustained and coordinated international support to ensure the safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar, saying the prolonged crisis requires greater global engagement.

The appeal was made during a bilateral meeting with Rosemary A. DiCarlo at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on Tuesday (July 7, New York time).

The minister stressed that a durable solution to the Rohingya crisis depends on sustained international cooperation to create conditions that allow refugees to return to Myanmar safely, voluntarily and with dignity, according to BSS.

During the meeting, Salahuddin also reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to advancing global peace and stability, highlighting the country's longstanding contributions to international peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts.

DiCarlo praised Bangladesh for its constructive and responsible role within the United Nations, commending its continued contributions to international peace, security and stability. She also acknowledged the country's enduring commitment to global peacebuilding initiatives.

The meeting reflected Bangladesh's continued diplomatic efforts to keep the Rohingya issue high on the international agenda while seeking broader global support for a sustainable resolution to one of the region's most pressing humanitarian crises.
