Malaysia’s police have urged the public, including social media influencers, to avoid taking unilateral action over issues involving the Rohingya community and instead report concerns to the relevant authorities.

Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said incidents involving the Rohingya or any alleged criminal activity should be handled through established legal and enforcement channels.

He said members of the public should provide information to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) or the Immigration Department rather than taking action themselves, warning that emotionally driven responses could create further problems.

According to The Sun, Noor Hisam made the remarks after a ceremony marking the completion of the 22nd SUKSIS Corps Inspector Training at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan.

He also cautioned social media users against being influenced by provocative or negative content concerning the Rohingya community, saying such messages could contribute to tensions and potentially affect public order.

The police official’s comments came after several social media influencers reportedly entered Rohingya settlements to draw the authorities’ attention to the presence of the community.

Noor Hisam said such actions could cross legal boundaries and stressed that enforcement measures must be carried out by the authorities in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

He added that the same principle applied to allegations of wrongdoing involving anyone, regardless of ethnicity, race, immigration status or citizenship.

Addressing claims that some individuals had acted independently because of alleged delays in official action, Noor Hisam said such concerns did not provide justification for breaking the law.

He further urged people with information about the locations of Rohingya communities to share it directly with the police instead of circulating it publicly in ways that could provoke tension.

“Do not take matters into your own hands. Leave it to the authorities to take the appropriate action,” he said.
