Myanmar's president Min Aung Hlaing, will pay a three-day state visit to Laos from July 3 to 5, marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries, Lao authorities have announced.
The visit will take place at the invitation of Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith and will see Min Aung Hlaing accompanied by his wife and a high-level delegation, according to an official statement from the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Asia News Network, the visit is intended to commemorate seven decades of diplomatic ties while reinforcing the long-standing friendship, close neighborly relations, and bilateral cooperation between Laos and Myanmar. Officials from both countries expect the engagement to inject fresh momentum into political, economic and regional cooperation.
Myanmar and Laos established diplomatic relations in 1955 and have maintained cordial ties through bilateral exchanges as well as cooperation under regional and multilateral mechanisms, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
During the visit, Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to hold official talks with Lao leaders and participate in events celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding collaboration across areas of shared interest.
The visit comes as Myanmar's military government continues to seek diplomatic engagement with regional partners amid the country's prolonged political crisis. Lao officials said the state visit underscores the commitment of both governments to deepen mutual understanding and further enhance cooperation for the benefit of their two peoples.
