Civil war in Myanmar is about to end. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said the Myanmar army and the minority ethnic rebel groups have decided to immediately cease fighting. The deal was brokered by China between Myanmar's junta government and the Brotherhood Alliance (an alliance of rebel groups).

Mao said that the two sides had a discussion last Wednesday and Thursday in Kunming, China's Wuhan province, bordering Myanmar. It was decided that, after ending the conflict in Myanmar's Northern Shan Province, this time there will be negotiations and bargaining to settle the problem. They also agreed to resume border trade, the rebel Tang National Liberation Army said.

In February 2021, Myanmar's army came to power by overthrowing the government led by pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy through a coup. This insurgency by the three allied armed groups has left them in the worst situation so far. Many areas are occupied by rebels. Last week they announced that they had captured an important city in the north.

Last week, Beijing expressed deep displeasure over the impact of the clashes on China in the border area. They also announced that they would take "necessary steps" to protect their citizens.

Mao said , both sides promised that there would be no compromise on the protection of people on the China-border and Chinese citizens in Myanmar.
