During a press conference in Tehran, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, expressed optimism about the future of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, labeling it “bright and promising.”

Kanaani highlighted the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, emphasizing ongoing talks and consultations at various levels. He pointed out that economic matters have been a focal point since diplomatic ties were restored in March 2023, facilitated by China's mediation.

The spokesman noted the active engagement of both countries in economic discussions, citing recent high-level visits as evidence of their commitment to expanding economic ties. Notably, a Saudi economic delegation is participating in Iran Expo 2024 in Tehran, while Iranian officials, including Finance Minister Ehsan Khandouzi and Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Safari, are visiting Riyadh for various meetings.

Khandouzi is set to attend a meeting of the Islamic Development Bank, while Safari will participate in a special session of the World Economic Forum.

The resumption of diplomatic relations last April marked a significant turning point, following Saudi Arabia's decision to sever ties with Iran in 2016. This move was in response to attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran, triggered by the execution of a Shiite cleric in Saudi Arabia.
