Myanmar junta government has been accused of breaking the ceasefire agreement with the support of China and attacking civilian areas. The Arakan Army (AA), a member of the Brotherhood Alliance, a joint platform of armed insurgent organizations in that country, has made this allegation. They claim that aerial bombardment is being done indiscriminately in the unarmed territory.
Incidentally, a ceasefire between the rebel coalition and junta forces was brokered by China in late January. According to that agreement, the Myanmar army agreed to hand over the ethnically populated Shan province of western Myanmar to the Brotherhood Alliance. But later, the conflict between the two sides continued in Rakhine, another province of western Myanmar. The Arakan Army alleged that the junta forces have launched a new offensive in the Shan province bordering China. The supply of food and essential goods to the people there is also being prevented!
Incidentally, the 'Brotherhood Alliance', an alliance of three rebel groups in Myanmar - the 'Tang National Liberation Army' (TNLA), the 'Arakan Army' (AA) and the 'Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army' (MNDAA) - has been fighting against the country's military since early November 2023. The operational name of that campaign is 'Operation 1027'.
Rebel groups such as the China National Army (CNA) and China Defense Force (CDF), Kachin Liberation Defense Force (KLDF) later joined the anti-junta war. The Shan State Progress Party, an anti-junta political party, has backed the rebel armed groups. The People's Defense Force (PDF), an armed group backed by Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy, has also joined the rebel camp. More than half of the country's territory has already been lost due to rebel attacks.
