BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called on the international community to intensify diplomatic pressure on Myanmar to ensure the safe, dignified, and voluntary repatriation of the Rohingya refugees currently residing in Bangladesh.

In a message posted on Facebook to mark World Refugee Day, Rahman expressed solidarity with millions of forcibly displaced people worldwide. He emphasized that for Bangladesh, the Rohingya crisis is not merely a global humanitarian issue, but a pressing daily reality.

“Bangladesh's unwavering commitment to sheltering over 1.4 million Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar has earned international recognition,” Rahman stated. “However, the burden of this prolonged crisis is becoming increasingly unsustainable for the country.”

He urged the interim government of Bangladesh to play a more active role in advancing diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis and ensure repatriation in accordance with international standards of safety and dignity.

“The international community must hold all parties accountable and ensure they fulfill their responsibilities in resolving this crisis,” Rahman wrote.

He concluded his message by calling for renewed global commitment to a peaceful and just process that would allow every refugee the opportunity to return to their homeland.
