The Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia has urged undocumented Bangladeshi nationals to return home legally under the Malaysian government’s Migrant Repatriation Programme 2.0 (BRM 2.0).
In a video message posted on the Malaysian Immigration Department’s Facebook page on Sunday, Bangladesh High Commission First Secretary (Press) Tariqul Islam said the programme allows irregular or undocumented foreign nationals and workers to return to their home countries lawfully and safely.
According to bdnews24.com, Bangladeshis seeking repatriation must have a valid Bangladeshi passport. Those with expired or invalid passports need to obtain a travel permit from the Bangladesh High Commission before applying.
Applicants must also secure a confirmed air ticket to Bangladesh. Under Malaysian immigration rules, the departure date must be at least five days after the immigration appointment and within 14 days.
Tariqul said applicants must appear in person at the designated immigration office and cannot apply through representatives or third parties. They are required to bring their original passport or travel permit, passport biodata copy, relevant immigration documents and a valid air ticket.
The High Commission also warned undocumented workers against brokers and middlemen, saying applicants do not need to pay anyone to obtain special assistance or benefits under the programme.
“Do not wait until the last moment,” Tariqul said, urging Bangladeshis to contact Malaysian immigration authorities and the Bangladesh High Commission for the latest requirements, fees and applicable fines.
The appeal comes as Malaysia continues efforts to facilitate the voluntary departure of undocumented migrants through its repatriation programme while enforcing its immigration regulations.
